A New Semester and a New Year

Well another semester has come and gone, I hope all your desires were fulfilled and you are right where you want to be. But, you are about to embark on a new year. Are you ready? Do you have a plan?

I am amazed by all the students who tell me they want this or they wish that, and their desires all over the place without any focus. They want good grades. They want to go to state. They want good SAT scores. They want to get into a good college. They want to be the best.

So, I like to ask them, "What do you want to happen first?" They usually have no answer. I ask them, "What do you want to happen today?" If they say anything, they'll say, "I don't know."

Next, I ask them, "What do you want to happen this month that will get you closer to your desires?" They usually say, "I don't know. I don't think about it."  I ask them, "Do you have a plan for the next year, month, week or even day that will bring you closer to having your wants?" The answer is always, "No."

How can you expect to have your wants and desires, if you don't even think about how you will obtain them? It's a must to list, think about and plan how you will obtain the things you want in life.

So right now, get a tablet of paper a pencil or pen and begin listing all the things you want in life. Then begin to think about how you will achieve all of these things.

  • Which ones must happen first?
  • What must I do to make them happen?
  • Who will I need to help me accomplish these things?

Finally, start planning how you will make each of these steps happen. Write out your plans and begin to take action. Plans with out action are useless and actions without plans are aimless.

Remember where there is no plan there is no direction and I guarantee you will not get the things you desire. If you truly want the things you desire then begin to think about them, plan them and take action and you will receive the desire of your heart.
